The French composer George Bizet (1838–1875) is known today mainly for his opera "Carmen". But his two four-movement L'Arlésienne suites are also part of the popular orchestral repertoire. Bizet compiled them from his music for Daudet's drama "L'Arlésienne". The third movement of the second suite contains one of the most famous and beautiful flute solos in orchestral literature: Usually accompanied only by a harp, the solo flute indulges in magical cantilenas. In this arrangement for four flutes, the division into tutti and solo sections is a good idea. The corresponding sections are marked in the musical text.
