This four-movement suite is based on a collection of Welsh songs inspired by war and revolution. The first movement, A Mighty Warrior, uses a folk song surrounded by original material, much in the style of Grainger. The second movement, Over the Stone, is lyrical and longing, reflecting a warrior who returns from battle. Men of Harlech brings strong tones ofpride and nationalism before the final movement, Owain GlyndwrŒÍs War So ng. Several high-pitched snare drums create the sound of a Welsh drum corps as the music brings the entire work to a dynamic close.
